Near Akron, Ohio, the Vineyard is named after Margaret’s late daughter Sarah, killed in a tragic auto accident in 1998. The fields are now tended and cared for in her memory. The name is believed to be a good fit for the land, for as the seasons come and go, Sarah’s Vineyard will reshape the abandoned fields into the image of a countryside once lost but not forgotten. After four years of hard work and dedicated service from the staff and volunteers, Mike and Margaret’s vision came to life when the winery doors opened in May of 2007. The rustic, relaxed atmosphere sets the perfect backdrop for any occasion and is unique to Akron and surrounding areas.
Vineyard and Winery
The winery is constructed from a pre-civil war hand-hewn timber frame and finished with cherry, aspen, poplar, walnut, and maple. The barn’s support beams were initially located near Cloverleaf High School off State Route 224 in Medina County, Ohio. The barn was disassembled and moved to the Cuyahoga Valley National Park.
The Tasting Room
The tasting room focuses on the winery’s main principle that houses the kitchen, bar, and main seating area. The tasting room keeps the rustic theme set with handmade wooden tables and a bar. It also serves as the art gallery, where you can browse and purchase local and national artists ranging from paintings, pottery, glass suncatchers, and other hand-crafted goods.
The Loft
The Loft was the first addition to the winery and was completed in 2011. It is a beautiful two-level space that overlooks the main tasting room. The loft serves as the party rental space and frequently hosts customer events such as bridal showers, birthday parties, and rehearsal dinners. When it is not rented, it serves as extra seating for the guests.
The Garden
The stunning and educational butterfly garden lines your walk as you enter the winery. Exotic flowers, plants, a koi pond, and a small waterfall are some of the features of this area. The Deck
The deck provides breathtaking views of the grapevines just outside the main tasting room. Watch as the vines grow over the season and dance in the wind. The deck is the best way to enjoy the true essence of the vineyard and Cuyahoga Valley National Park through the seasons.
